The relatives of the 87 elderly people who died between March and May 2020 at the Ca N’Amell geriatric residence in Premià de Mar (Maresme), supposedly due to lack of attention and negligence on the part of those responsible, have reacted with indignation to the archive announcement of the cause, among other reasons, why the Prosecutor’s Office itself, which had filed a complaint against the director and the medical person in charge of the residence, managed by DomusVi, has detailed that it has not found conclusive evidence.
It was the Generalitat itself, through the Department of Social Affairs, who informed the Prosecutor’s Office of the negligent action in applying preventive measures against Covid, which caused the death of 87 elderly people in just three months. The Catalan government forced the closure of the residence that was managed by the Servei Català de la Salut through the Consorci Sanitari del Maresme.
They suspect a “political order”
The affected families have shown their confusion with the Prosecutor’s Office, which at first judged the events reportable and now, as Premià Media advances and has confirmed The Vanguardstates that there is not enough evidence. All of this, according to the same sources, makes them suspect “that it is a political order” which is why they announce that they will review the judicial decision and appeal to European bodies.
The Premià de Mar City Council, chaired by the former mayor Junts, Miquel Àngel Méndez, in July 2022 decided to appear as a popular accusation, a request that was made before court number 2 of Mataró that is investigating the case. Now, his successor, Rafa Navarro, advances to The Vanguard that “we have to respect judicial decisions” however he has reacted with surprise at the change in criteria since “what happened in that residence deserved judicial follow-up and a purging of responsibilities” since, he assures “it was a great tragedy for the municipality.
