The original control of Xbox, known as the Duke, is iconic. While many might argue that it is somewhat annoying to use, no one can deny that its design marked an entire generation. Thus, A new model of this controller has recently been revealed, which could become the definitive version of the Duke.
As part of the announcements that took place during CES 2024, Hyperkin introduced the Hyperkin DuchesS, an Xbox controller that takes the original design of the Duke, and updates it with modern features such as Hall effect joysticks. These use magnets and electrical conductors instead of the electrical resistance used in standard joysticks. This extends the life of the control as there is no real friction.
The design of the controller is not yet final, and Hyperkin has also not shared a release date or price for the DuchesS. Although the platforms were not confirmed, It is more than obvious that it will work with the Xbox Series X|S and PC. Although some might think that this controller is completely original, during the first generation of Xbox, the Xbox Controller S was put on sale, which arrived in Japan as an alternative to the Duke. Unfortunately, it failed to catch on in this market, as gamers were more familiar with Nintendo and PlayStation controllers at the time.
We can only wait for the Hyperkin DuchesS, and perhaps it will become your favorite control in the future. On related topics, the Xbox toaster is now a reality. Likewise, Xbox is willing to bring its exclusives to PlayStation and Switch consoles.
Editor's Note:
Collecting controllers has become something I've gotten into this generation, and having a model that resembles the original Duke is something I'd like to have in my collection. However, I don't think something like this will come cheap.
