The world population would reach 8,000 million people on November 15, According to the projection of a United Nations report this Monday, where India would also surpass China as the most populous country in the world in 2023.
That population milestone”is a reminder of our shared responsibility to take care of our planet and a moment to reflect on where we are indebted to our mutual commitments,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
“This is an occasion to celebrate our diversity, recognize our common humanity, and marvel at the advances in health that have extended life expectancy and dramatically reduced maternal and infant mortality rates“, he added.

The projection of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs says that the world population is growing at its slowest rate since 1950. The world would reach 8,500 million inhabitants in 2030 and 9,700 million in 2050, peaking at around 10.4 billion in the 2080s to finally level off until 2100.
While a net drop in birth rates is observed in developing countries, more than half of the projected growth in world population in the coming decades will be concentrated in eight countries, the report says. It specifies that these nations are the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania.
