The project, with an investment of almost 3 million, also provides for the urban improvement of the surroundings of the Avenida de la Industria
The construction works of the pedestrian and cyclable connection of the urban center of Molina de Segura with the orchard and the Vía Verde del Noroeste begin, with an investment of 2,855,169 euros, 80% co-financed by the Feder Fund. This action, which falls under line 2 of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (Edusi) Molina 2020 Avanza Contigo, has a maximum execution period of twelve months.
The project, awarded to the company Axa, is part of the southern urban area of Molina de Segura, where the neighborhoods of La Ermita, San Roque and the peri-urban area of La Huerta and the Segura River are located. In the scope of action are the Avenida de la Industria and the national highway 301, with a high intensity of vehicular traffic that represents a barrier for the houses located to the south of it and for the connection of the urban nucleus with the area of orchard, as explained yesterday during the presentation of the project by municipal engineer Enrique Lorente Martínez.
The objective is to create the connection between the urban center with the orchard and the Northwest Greenway by means of a walkway that crosses the Avenida de Industria, guaranteeing accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The walkway will be complemented by an urban action that, through the treatment of pavements, landscaping and new facilities, will generate a quality urban space.
With a length of 210 meters and made of steel, it will facilitate access from the Northwest Greenway
In the words of the mayor, Eliseo García Cantó, «the Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development (Edusi) Molina 2020 Avanza Contigo is helping us to design the municipality in which we want to live, a friendly, sustainable and cohesive city, which is beginning to take form”.
The pedestrian connection is, as he said, “an example of the many projects in which we are working from the different municipal areas and in which the 12.5 million euros with which this strategy is endowed” are invested. The walkway consists of seven spans between 10 and 48 meters for a total length of 210 meters. The free width of the board is 3.5 meters. The foundation is resolved by capping on piles and micropiles. The chosen material is steel, which allows for much slimmer and cheaper sections. The surrounding urbanization actions include the confluence of the Avenida de la Industria with the streets of San Ignacio and Consolación and the tunnel that crosses the aforementioned Avenida de la Industria. There will also be action on the Camino del Cerriche and the landing area of the metal walkway.
