Vladimir Padrino assured that he will speak with the Colombian minister about the reopening on Monday.

The Venezuelan Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino Lopezpublished a video on his Twitter account in which he assures that he will meet with his Colombian counterpart, Iván Velásquez, to talk about the reopening of the border between the two countries, which is scheduled for this Monday, September 26.

In the video, Padrino appears touring the Simón Bolívar International Bridge and says that he will meet with the Colombian Minister of Defense to “talk about all the necessary issues for the reconstruction of trust, and of the peace border”.

For its part, the Colombian Ministry of Defense reported through its Twitter account that Velásquez is heading to the state of Tachira “where he will hold a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart to address issues related to the opening of the border between the two countries.”

This meeting takes place in moments of expectation for the commercial reopening of the border between Colombia and Venezuela.

The Government of Gustavo Petro has said that this will be “symbolic” and that, therefore, it will not have the presence of the Colombian president or Nicolás Maduro.

The Colombia-Venezuela border was closed to the circulation of vehicles in August 2015 by the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, who later broke relations with Colombia in February 2019, a difference that is now beginning to be left behind with Petro, with whom he has more affinity than with its predecessors.
