Suddenly and without the timely warning of its irresponsible (mis)Government, the flood fell on the Valencian Community, taking the lives of many, making many others disappear, and ruining all the other inhabitants of more than seventy. municipalities.
All of Spain has been shocked and silenced by what we have seen on television: streets packed with cars piled up at the whim of the waters, domestic objects scattered and mixed in the middle of impressive layers of mud, and crying, despair, and anguish. for the missing and the dead; for the present and for the future and for the sudden poverty and helplessness of those hundreds of thousands of people suddenly with nothing – and miraculously alive – those who can tell it between sobs.
It will be very difficult for us to forget about this enormity, it will be very difficult for those affected to recover their lives and previous well-being, and it will be very difficult for the Valencian government to explain why preventive measures were not taken, why warning was given too late. and why more than a week later the president of that Community has not given any explanations.
It will also be very difficult for this government to last – including the president – because of everything it could have avoided, but did not do, because of everything it has to repent and remains silent about, and will have to be accountable in the end to the citizens and possibly to justice.
The good side: good people
Something else has moved us, and this time positively: the avalanche of Valencian volunteers and many coming from all over the country, who have abandoned their comfort to put themselves in the shoes of their peers, fill themselves with the same mud and share their lives. and suffering even at the risk of contracting an infection.
The element of compassion and empathy when someone suffers a great misfortune, whether neighbor or stranger, is part of the spiritual treasure of the Spanish people who, on this occasion, as they did on other occasions and as they do daily with those who arrive dramatically from the sea and ask to live here, it is an extraordinary example for the world. It reveals an inner strength in citizens that has not been perverted by the order that governs this world, which is the order imposed by the rich, the violent, the individualistic, the egomaniacal and power-hungry. This inner strength of the Spanish people is the latent embryo of their ability to make wise decisions that those in charge of this country would never make if they did not feel pushed by that force. This of the Spanish people is the energy of the true revolution that awaits all of humanity: the revolution from selfless and selfless love and its drive towards unity and mutual aid.
When the people are not in control
The big question when it comes to wanting to change the destiny of any people in our world, including the Spanish, is that it is usually in the hands of obscenely rich people present in some of that human fauna of people who lack the most basic ethics and with strong narcissistic components; of ambitious people, liars, hypocrites, incompetent, ambitious, upstarts, careerists, opportunists, conservatives and ultras, mafia bosses or criminals, and not lastly, of social and emotional psychopaths incapable of feeling the pain they cause.
Unfortunately, the towns are in the hands of several of these individuals who have no shame in standing for elections and even deceive whoever they can by pretending to be what they are not based on lies, empty speeches with false promises and a lot of visibility on screens. And very often they manage to deceive and get voted, as has been the case of the Valencian government, to the disgrace of this Community.
Many of those types of humans disguised as good and honorable to suck the energy of the people appear in the media everywhere, conveniently disguised, as “the good ones”, “the moderate ones”, “the centered ones”, “the reliable ones”, while good people, those who want peace, truth, justice, mutual aid and all those qualities that define good people, are in the minority on television screens and in the pages of newspapers, and it is not by chance: all and each one of those of mass circulation is in the hands of those worst people, who are always – oh, disastrous coincidence – very rich and powerful or are they some of their many taskmasters who often shout in Parliaments, display flags and They make lies like someone makes churros. Of course they love their country very much while measuring the volume of their portfolios as a reference.
In the movie of this world, they, the false good guys, live determined to prevent those who can reveal their dirty games from existing. To prevent this from happening, all those socially considered “good”, “centered”, “democratic”, “moderate and reliable” develop all kinds of strategies: they defame them, slander them, persecute them, imprison them, silence them, murder them, and many other not good things. of the “good” officers while flying national flags. Nothing to do with those hundreds and hundreds of volunteers who brandish picks, shovels and even brooms. The two Spains are clearly visible these days in all their nakedness.
