USA has vetoed once again, the fourtha UN request for a ceasefire in Gaza, AFP reports. This Wednesday, the Security Council discussed a new draft resolution on the war between Israel and Gaza.
In the text, a ceasefire was demanded “immediate, unconditional and permanent” and it was also noted that it had to be “respected by all parties.”
“We made it clear in the negotiations that we could not support an unconditional ceasefire that does not achieve the release of the hostages,” said the US ambassador. Robert Woodin statements collected by AFP.
The Council He insisted on his demand for the release “immediate and unconditional” of all the hostages. On the other hand, it demanded that all civilians in Gaza be able to “immediately” access basic services, as well as humanitarian assistance. Therefore, he thus rejected “any effort to starve the Palestinians.”
«For us, there would have to be a link between the ceasefire and the release of hostages. “That has been our position from the beginning and we maintain it,” added the American diplomat.
With the proposed resolution, Wood continued, the Council would send Hamas “the dangerous message that it is not necessary to return to the negotiating table.”
The text “is nothing more than a betrayal” and would amount to an “abandonment” of the hostages, the Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, had denounced before the vote.
