The UN Director for Project Services (UNOPS), Jorge Moreira da Silva, confirmed on Wednesday that an international worker of this agency has died in Gaza in an explosion and another five have been injured, some seriously, but has not held Israel responsible for what happened. Palestinian sources have directly pointed to an Israeli attack against the one -class building where the victims were.
According to Moreira da Silva, “an explosive ammunition was thrown or triggered against the infrastructure and detonated inside the building” in Deir al Balah, which houses the residences and offices of the UNOPS. He has added in statements to the press in Brussels that it is unknown what type of ammunition was, if aerial launch, artillery or rocket projectiles.
“In my opinion, this cannot be classified as an accident, but is at least an incident. What is happening in Gaza is inadmissible,” he said. “I am shocked and devastated by this tragic news. Previously, the Ministry of Health of Gaza had reported that five foreign workers were injured and one died in the bombing against the headquarters where they were in the center of the strip.
