Her Excellency Maryam Al Kaabi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Arab Republic of Egypt and her Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, participated in the work of the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States, which was held at the level of permanent delegates, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League, headed by His Excellency Hussein Sidi Abdullah Al Dayh, Ambassador of Mauritania to Egypt and its Permanent Representative. At the Arab League (the current President of the League Council), in the presence of the Assistant Secretary-General, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, and delegates and representatives of the Arab countries, in order to discuss the international Arab movement to stop the Israeli aggression in light of Israel’s failure to comply with the Security Council resolutions and the orders of the International Court of Justice.
In her speech during the opening session, Her Excellency affirmed that the meeting comes in light of the exceptional and difficult circumstances that the occupied Gaza Strip is witnessing, which requires us to combine efforts at all levels, intensify work, and enhance consultation and coordination to deal with the current challenges to achieve comprehensive and just peace and prevent the region from being dragged into new levels of violence and tension. And instability.
Her Excellency said: “In the face of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli attacks resulting in a catastrophic humanitarian situation that is extremely sensitive and dangerous, threatening the lives of the entire population of the Strip, the UAE stresses the necessity of intensifying collective action and joint efforts, to put an end to the ongoing machine of destruction, and achieve a cessation of Immediate firing, and adherence to the relevant legal decisions, in order to preserve the lives of civilians and provide them with the necessary humanitarian and relief assistance in an urgent, safe, sustainable and unhindered manner, and through all possible methods.
Her Excellency stressed the need to work to avoid expanding the conflict by achieving a just, permanent and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state living in security and stability.
Her Excellency expressed the UAE's deep concern about the plans and preparations of the Israeli army to launch a military operation in the Rafah area in the south of the Gaza Strip, which is crowded with displaced Palestinians, warning of the serious humanitarian repercussions that military operations may cause, which threatens to cause more innocent civilian casualties and lead to the exacerbation of the humanitarian catastrophe. Which the Gaza Strip is witnessing, reiterating the UAE’s rejection and strong opposition to any forced deportation of the brotherly Palestinian people, and any practices that violate the resolutions of international legitimacy and international and humanitarian law.
Her Excellency noted that the UAE condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting of the World Central Kitchen Foundation team, and holds Israel fully responsible for this dangerous development, and demands an urgent, independent and transparent investigation into what happened, and to punish those responsible for this heinous crime, which is considered a blatant violation of all international treaties that guarantee the protection of… Relief and rescue workers.
Her Excellency said: “My country stressed the need to immediately stop violence, avoid targeting civilians, institutions, civilian objects and relief institutions, and demanded that food not be used as a weapon and that we stop imposing restrictions on humanitarian aid and provide protection without delay.”
Her Excellency indicated that on the diplomatic level, the UAE has intensified its diplomatic action and contacts since the outbreak of the war, seeking to stop the escalation, achieve a ceasefire, and restore calm to stop the bloodshed, and gave priority to addressing the humanitarian situation, protecting civilians and civilian facilities, and securing safe and stable humanitarian corridors to provide relief and medical aid.
Her Excellency highlighted the efforts of the UAE in this regard, as it succeeded in having the Security Council adopt Resolution 2712 (2023) as well as Resolution 2720 (2023), which called for taking concrete steps to increase the flow of humanitarian aid that the Palestinians desperately need, and to protect United Nations employees and workers in the field. Her Excellency indicated that, as part of its firm commitment to the brotherly Palestinian people, and providing humanitarian initiatives to relieve them, since October of last year, the UAE has provided 26,000 tons of urgent supplies, including food, water, and medical materials, by sending 234 aircraft, and implementing… 22 airdrops, sending 1,055 trucks and 3 aid ships carrying 13,190 tons of relief supplies. It also launched a number of sustainable relief projects and provided medical care to the people of the Gaza Strip through the construction of a field hospital in the south of the Strip, and a floating hospital off the coast of the Egyptian city of Al-Arish.
Her Excellency said: “Believing that the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip requires adopting a multilateral, international cooperative approach, the UAE has made unremitting efforts to mobilize support for the “Amalthea” sea corridor initiative between the Republic of Cyprus and Gaza, starting from the port of Larnaca, to deliver humanitarian aid to northern Gaza. Within the framework of In this initiative, the UAE and the World Central Kitchen Foundation successfully completed, and in a historic precedent, the delivery of 300 tons of food aid to the Gaza Strip by sea and delivered it to northern Gaza.
Her Excellency added: “The UAE has sent automatic bakeries to meet the daily needs of more than 72,000 people. The UAE also provides flour to 8 existing bakeries in Gaza that provide the daily needs of 17,140 people.”
Her Excellency pointed out that as part of the directives of His Highness the President of the State to treat 2,000 cancer patients from the Gaza Strip, 617 Gazans have arrived in the UAE to receive medical care, in addition to 635 companions, as part of the ongoing efforts undertaken by the UAE at various levels. To provide relief to the brotherly Palestinian people and enhance the response to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions taking place in the Gaza Strip.
