Al-Ahly and Zamalek will meet, in a postponed match from the 20th round of the Egyptian League, in a summit bearing the number 124 in the history of the giants’ confrontations in the local league.
Al-Ahly, host of the match at Al-Salam Stadium, seeks to continue its victories, hoping to pursue the leader, Zamalek, in order to regain the title of the role, which has been absent from the coffers of the Red Genie since 2020.
While Zamalek seeks to win, hoping to avenge its loss in the first leg by a score of 3-5, and in order to maintain its position in the lead, which it occupies with 44 points from 20 games, while Al-Ahly ranks third with 40 points from 17 games.
Al-Ahly without Musimani
Al-Ahly will enter the derby match, without the presence of its South African coach, Pitso Mosimane, on the bench, for the first time in nearly two years.
Al-Ahly fans will watch the team’s form in the absence of Musimani, and the new way of playing, in a scene that may shape the shape of the next stage without Musimani.
Al-Ahly club announced, last week, the termination of the contract of its coach, Pitso Misimani, by mutual consent, with the assignment of Sami Komsoun to lead the team temporarily.
Al-Ahly’s broad fans were divided over the decision to dismiss Musimani, but everyone is surely waiting for Al-Ahly’s new form in the post-Mosimani stage.
Mortada Mansour crisis
As for Zamalek, the club’s president sparked controversy by objecting to playing at the top, due to the “unequal opportunities” between the two teams.
The president of the Egyptian Zamalek club, Mortada Mansour, refused his team’s participation in the top match in the Egyptian League, against Al-Ahly, due to the “lack of equal opportunities”.
And Mansour indicated in a statement published on his official account, on Saturday, that the first leg match between Zamalek And Al-Ahly was held without a public presence, which means that holding the return match on Al-Ahly’s land with a public presence, is a violation of the principle of equal opportunities.
Mansour wrote in the statement: “We were surprised that the match between Zamalek and Al-Ahly, which will be held on Sunday, will be held with fans, as Al-Ahly club will be allowed to enter about 4 thousand and Zamalek with about a thousand and a half, which violates the principle of equal opportunities because the first match was held without fans.”
Influential absences in Zamalek
Zamalek suffers from many absences in its ranks, before facing Al-Ahly, most notably goalkeeper Mohamed Abu Jabal.
The team’s stars, Mahmoud Alaa, will also be absent due to the suspension, Hamza Mathlouthi, Ahmed Fattouh, Seif El-Din Al-Jaziri, Hazem Imam and Tariq Hamed.
