Over 20,000 players of The Sims 4 have signed a petition to introduce Electronic Arts dei gender-neutral pronouns, so as to ensure greater inclusiveness within the videogame.
In 2016, The Sims 4 introduced a gender-neutral Sims creation system: body, walk type, and voice were no longer tied to being a man or a woman. The petition admits that there are options designed to ensure greater inclusiveness, but also points out that there is a lack of gender-neutral proposals for transsexual and non-binary people.
“The Sims 4 has come a long way for members of the LGBTQIA2 + community by allowing us to customize gender options for our sims,” reads the petition initiated by Twitch streamer Momo Misfortune, who is non-binary. “However, there is still no representation for our sims transgender and non-binary. The game will use a gender language based on the body type you have chosen for your sim (masc or femme). Recent packs have added more neutral language or the choice to call a sim by name instead of him / her, but the gender language still persists. ”
“If we could have the option to choose pronouns for our sim or, for the team, to change the old game texts to be gender neutral like the current dialogue in the pack, it would be important for those who are not yet. able to feel truly represented in the game as the sims are called the wrong gender. I am aware that a pronoun option could create problems with translations to other languages. Even if the above is not added in The Sims 4, I hope that creating this petition shows EA and the Sims team that something like this would be useful for The Sims 5. ” You can find the petition here.
