Yellow paint in games is used as an element focused on guiding players or turning out certain items. Although this section is very useful, it is not liked by many players, who have pointed out that this breaks immersion. Titles like Resident Evil 7 and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth have been criticized for this, so Konami wants to avoid these types of messages with the remake of Silent Hill 2which will not have yellow paint.
Through an interview with Famitsu, Motoi Okamoto, producer of the remake of Silent Hill 2, He talked a little about some of the changes this installment will have compared to the original game. This was where he talked about immersion, and the fact that this title will use elements such as lighting to mark points of interest for the player, rather than using the infamous paint yellow. This is what he said about it:
“Things don’t even glow, but the location and lighting let the player know that something is there. The problem is that, if the graphic density is high, the background and elements [interactuables] they inevitably mix together, making the search difficult (…) The remake has a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective, making it more difficult to see the elements [que con la cámara original]. To solve this problem, icons are now displayed that make it clear what you can get them.”
During the Interview, Okamoto also revealed that the Japanese team was open to making many more changes compared to the original title.. However, Bloober Team was responsible for keeping multiple aspects intact, resulting in an experience that feels modern and does not forget its origin.
We remind you that the remake of Silent Hill 2 will arrive on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 8, 2024. On related topics, a comparison arises between the remake of Silent Hill 2 and the original game. Likewise, here you can see the first look at the Return to Silent Hill movie.
Note from the Author:
Yellow paint is not as bad as many claim. In games with a lot of detail, this helps us differentiate between what is a normal object and an interactive one. While it may break immersion, it is a necessary evil, and while alternatives are possible, they do not guarantee success.
