The Navy’s amphibious assault ship (BAA) ‘Galicia’ arrived this Monday at 8:15 a.m., at the Port of Valencia with 104 infants to help the province after the devastating DANA which has left, for the moment, 210 fatalities. The sailors will join the more than 5,000 soldiers already deployed in the area.
The ship has docked at cruise ship pier number 1 of the Port with more than 300 sailors on board and has the capabilities of an amphibious ship: hangar and flight deck to operate several helicopters simultaneously, garages to transport a large number of vehicles, a floodable dock to operate with boats and a hospital with two operating rooms and eight ICU beds.
To fulfill their mission in Valencia, they have embarked just over 100 marines, nine all-terrain vehicles, two SH60F personnel transport helicopters with night flight capability, two landing craft, naval beach equipment, a doctor, two nurses and a toilet.
The ship will carry out a wide spectrum of tasks to support the population based on its various capabilities and in coordination with the rest of the means deployed in the area for this purpose, as reported by Defense.
