Russia will continue contacts with the UN on the grain deal, concrete results are needed. On Friday, September 23, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin said.
“We continued our contacts with the UN members on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, in particular with the Secretary General of UNCTAD (UN Conference on Trade and Development – Ed.). We [продолжили рассматривать с ООН] something that has already been discussed with them in sufficient detail in Geneva,” he said TASS.
According to him, these contacts will be continued, because Russia needs concrete results on the basis of the memorandum concluded on July 22 in Istanbul.
At the same time, Vershinin noted that the time had not yet come to talk about extending the grain deal.
On September 19, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that maintaining the food deal, which allows agricultural exports from Black Sea ports, is vital. He noted that the deal has already made it possible to improve the food situation in the world.
So, on September 9, the UN reported that during the work of the Joint Coordinating Center (JCC), as part of the grain deal, about 2.5 million tons of grain and other food were exported from the ports of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Moscow emphasized that the West exports most of the Ukrainian grain to Europe, and not to countries in need. In particular, at the end of August, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the geography of the movement of ships that departed from the Black Sea ports of Ukraine does not correspond to the tasks of the UN in helping countries in Asia and Africa.
The food deal was concluded on July 22 in Istanbul. Then Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and UN Secretary General António Guterres signed a memorandum on facilitating the supply of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets. At the same time, the Ukrainian delegation signed an agreement with Turkey and the UN on the export of grain.
