On Tuesday, Ukrainian military intelligence said that Ukrainian forces had killed a Russian general near the besieged city of Kharkiv.
It stated that Major General Vitaly Gerasimov, First Deputy Commander of the 41st Russian Army, was killed on Monday, according to what was reported by “Reuters”, while Russia has not commented on the event so far.
And the British newspaper “The Sun” reported that 3 other officers were killed in the battles with the Ukrainian forces, they are Lieutenant-Colonel Denis Glebov, Lieutenant-Colonel Dmitry Safronov and Konstantin Zhizhevsky.
And it quoted the Ukrainian General Staff as saying that it had regained control of the Chuyev region near Kharkiv, where it inflicted heavy losses on the Russian forces.
During the battle, two senior officers were killed: Safronov, commander of the 41st Airborne Brigade, and Glebov, deputy commander of the 11th Airborne Brigade.
The third officer is Colonel Zhizhevsky, commander of the 247th Air Assault Regiment, an airborne division. Zhizhevsky was killed during the fighting in the separatist regions of Lugansk and Donetsk in Ukraine, according to what the mayor of the Russian city of Nevinomsk revealed, where the slain officer descended in a post on his Instagram page.
Earlier in March, Russian sources confirmed the killing of the first high-ranking Russian military official, General Andrei Sukhovitsky, commander of the Russian 7th Airborne Division in Ukraine.
Ukraine says its forces have killed more than 11,000 Russian soldiers, while Russia has confirmed that it has only lost about 500 of its soldiers.
