Barça’s away game tomorrow at 6 p.m. against Partizan Belgrade will not be just another game for Kevin Punter, Blaugrana player of the moment and recently named best player of the month of October in the Euroleague, with an average of 18.6 points, 2.4 assists and 1.4 recoveries per game, with an average rating of 19.9. The American faces his former team, for which he played the last three seasons.
The culé guard was one of the key men under the orders of Zeljko Obradovic, who opted for his signing and was one of his greatest supporters. Punter formed a special bond with the Partizan fans. In fact, the 31-year-old New Yorker says he still maintains contact with people he met during his time at the Serbian club.
“It’s a special game. Everyone knows my relationship with Partizan. I played there three years. Tomorrow will be crazy. I created a real bond with the fans. We go through ups and downs. I have a real relationship off the track with many people there,” he details about his former team.
So much so that Punter became captain of Partizan, a fact that had not previously happened with any player of non-Serbian nationality. The shooting guard won the Adriatic League with his former team alongside names like James Nunnally, Zach LeDay and former Barça player Dante Exum.
After a time at Olympiacos that did not bear fruit, Punter came to play for a few months in the 2019-20 season at Red Star, Partizan’s great rival in Belgrade. It was during that season that he received Serbian nationality, which he shares with the United States.
