It has been exactly 15 years since Opel announced the return of the GT. It was 2006, and the German car manufacturer decided to revive the GT name, which had characterized the iconic model marketed by the brand in 1968. The differences between the two models, however, they were there for all to see, starting with the bodywork, the new GT being a spider unlike the coupé of the late 1960s. But this was not the only novelty: we also think of the engine, which on the last GT was not mounted in the front-longitudinal position but rather rear-center with self-locking differential.
So many mechanical specifications which made the new GT a spider of great appeal: from a refined suspension geometry to a sporty set-up, passing through a low and relaxed driving position. From an aesthetic point of view, the latest GT was characterized at the front by the marked shapes of the fenders, by the wide chromed crossbar that incorporated the brand, by the elongated bonnet on which the typical central elevation of the Opel cars stood out, by the chromed frames of the air intakes and three-dimensional headlights inserted inside transparent headlight covers that continued on the sides. Elsewhere, the twin tailpipes and double air intakes behind the headrests stood out, elements that completed the overview together with the 18 ″ alloy wheels. It also deserves a mention canvas hood, which made this GT a true avant-garde spider.
As for the engine specifications, the latest Opel GT was equipped with a sophisticated 264 HP turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine, which allowed the spider to reach 100 km / h from a standing start in 5.7 seconds. In combination a sporty manual gearbox, controlled by a short lever, and a self-locking differential transmitted the driving force to the ground. Finally, the new Opel GT was equipped with four large disc brakes, electronic anti-lock braking ABS and electronic stability control ESP that can be deactivated.
