TodayYou predicts a “worse” end of the year than the previous one due to restrictions on non-essential activities
The president of the Regional Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs, HoyTú, Jesús Jiménez, predicted a New Year’s Eve “worse” than last year for the sector in economic terms due to the restrictions imposed to combat the advance of the sixth wave caused by the coronavirus in the Region of Murcia.
“Nothing is active, everything has been suspended. Reservations are canceled, “said Jiménez, after criticizing the latest measures promoted by the Community, among which is the closure of non-essential activities between 1:00 and 6:00 until next January 14.
According to the Murcian hoteliers’ spokesman, some businessmen are trying to “redirect” the party on the last night of the year to the afternoon, as already happened on December 24, on the occasion of Christmas Eve, although on that occasion the lack of time due to the urgency of the implementation of the measures complicated the plan.
In this context, “we are going to have a worse New Year’s Eve than last year” in financial terms. However, according to Jiménez, contagions will not be avoided because “people will continue to meet at home, in the garden, in chalets” or “they will go to other communities.” In this regard, he assured that buses are being chartered in Murcia capital and other municipalities in the Region to celebrate the change of the year on the Orihuela coast (Alicante), where the opening of bars, restaurants and function rooms “is allowed” overnight.
For Jiménez, the current restrictions are the result of “improvisation” and their effects will be felt “very strong” in the sector. “Always here they are pioneers in imposing measures, and they are usually the most restrictive,” he said, criticizing that these are not accompanied by a plan of aid that serves to “compensate” the sector.
