JNow it was women’s day again. Like every year. March 8th is so highly valued that it is now even an official holiday in Berlin. A graphic with a special sense of humor was recently distributed by the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” on Twitter by the author Katja Berlin. Two pie charts were shown. Left one with four equal parts what women want. A quarter each for gender equality, sexual self-determination, equal pay for equal work and a fair division of labor. On the right a complete cake with what women get: flowers.
A graphic to smile and yet a very bitter truth. Women and money, women and pay, women and finances, there are many protestations, but too little is happening that promotes these issues in the long term. In any case, what happens on social media on days like Women’s Day is not a good reflection of what is happening in reality. On the LinkedIn careers platform, men in particular are overdoing themselves with expressions of sympathy and approval that women should be paid better and their work should be valued more. Do the same men as managers also act in this way?
