Porsche sold 88,362 Macans last year, more than double the number of 911s the brand managed to sell in 2021. Pretty clever, since the Macan is actually very old – not counting the facelift then. It is still the best-selling Porsche worldwide. In the Netherlands, that is slightly different, since the entry-level Macan is just as expensive as the Cayenne e-Hybrid due to our BPM system. And then without a doubt you just go for the Cayenne.
The sales figures are in any case enough reason to add a new Macan to the range. And we also get it in the Netherlands. Meet the Porsche Macan T. Research by TopGear shows that the Macan T is not related to Mr. T. It is not clear whether this Macan also pities the fool. Porsche traditionally gives the nickname ‘T’ to sports cars to indicate ‘Touring’. Now they are applying it to an SUV for the first time.
The engine of the Porsche Macan T
The T squeezes itself between the entry-level Macan (just Macan) and the Macan S. The GTS still leads the way with its 2.9-liter turbo V6, while this T does its job with the same four-cylinder turbo you’ll find in a Golf R (and the entry-level Macan), albeit with a Porsche tune. So you should not confuse the Porsche Macan T with the Macan Turbo, which was the absolute winner in the previous offer.
He’s a little lighter
Porsche tells us that this engine saves 58.8 kilos on the front axle compared to the larger V6, which would be good for cornering. The chassis is also sportier. It’s 15 millimeters lower than the standard Macan and it’s on steel springs – not air suspension. That is an option, by the way. However, there is always Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and the stabilizer bars on the front axle are stiffer.
How fast is the Porsche Macan T?
The Porsche Macan T is not really slow, by the way: 0-100 km/h takes 6.2 seconds – 1.4 seconds slower than the S, but two tenths faster than the entry-level model – while the top speed is 232 km/h. You can recognize the new version by the exterior details in the color Agate Gray and of course the Macan T-badges. The exhaust pipes and window frames are painted in high-gloss black, while the 20-inch wheels are finished in dark titanium.
The price of the Porsche Macan T will follow. He should be at the dealers in April.
