The facilities will have a swimming pool, paddle tennis courts and a space with bungalows
The City Council of Pliego announces that the new campsite will open its doors at the end of the year, after three decades of delays since the first works began. The operation of these facilities has been awarded to the Ifre-Nova company, which will be in charge of management for a period of 25 years, plus another ten that can be extended.
The awardee will begin with the adaptation of the facilities in the coming weeks, “so that this winter it can be officially inaugurated,” municipal sources said. Thus, the residents of the Río Mula region will be able to enjoy a new campsite, which will be located next to the road that connects this town with the districts of Berro, Fuente Librilla and Alhama de Murcia.
The first construction works on the campsite began in the early 1990s. The initial idea was the creation of a leisure area for the neighbors, on the land where the old urban solid waste dump of the town was located. For three decades, “the City Council has been carrying out the construction works of the campsite, little by little and in accordance with the economic provisions of the municipal coffers and the subsidies of the Community,” explained from the mayor’s office.
At that time, the municipal corporations carried out the process of subdivision, fencing, construction of the pool and barbecues, as well as landscaping of the entire campsite. «It will be a great tourist attraction for Pliego and for the entire region, since it will place the municipality on the tourist map of the interior of the Region. The campsite will have, among other facilities, an area of bungalows, a swimming pool and paddle tennis courts”, recalled the mayor, Antonio Huéscar, who thanked the Campers Club of the Region for their help in this project.
