The plenary session of the Parliament approved this Tuesday, with the support of the votes of the PP and Voxa modification of the article 12 of the animal protection law. This change will allow minors to attend bullfightsas long as they are accompanied by an adult.
The Chamber has given its approval to Vox’s initiative, with 33 votes in favor and 25 againstto eliminate the restriction on the entry of minors to bullfights. Although the original proposal of the party of Santiago Abascal contemplated the total elimination of the prohibition, finally a PP amendment has been accepted which establishes that minors may attend as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
The legal modification has been approved in the midst of the criticism from the leftwho has expressed his disagreement with the Government. The deputy of PSIB, Irantzu Fernandezhas accused the Executive of “mortgaging the well-being and mental health of minors” in exchange for obtaining Vox’s support for the regional Budgets. Fernández has warned that “this is just the beginning, since there will be more spending ceilings and more budgets in the future“.
Fernández has questioned the veto of the appearance of the director of the Balearic Office for Children and Adolescents (OBIA), arguing that the PP and Vox knew that she would have spoken out against it due to the effects of violence on minors. The socialist deputy considers that the PP amendment is “an alibi” to facilitate the approval of the Budgets. “In the Balearic Islands there is neither hobby nor tradition“, he emphasized to conclude his speech.
The PP gives the green light to one of Vox’s “obsessions”
The deputy of Month for Mallorca, Marta Carriohas denounced that the PP holds “with a firm hand the pact of UNICEF in defense of children’s rights and, with the other, maintains its agreement with Vox”.
The eco-sovereignty deputy has refuted the arguments of the PP in favor of the freedom of parents, pointing out that “no one would accept that a father gave wine to his son because he was a lover of vineyards, that he allowed him to smoke because he does not believe in the theories that warn about the harm of tobacco, that let him play slot machines or allow him to consume pornography as the best way to learn about sex education“.
Cristina Gómez: “Any person who appreciates an animal is not going to witness how they kill it. It’s a truism”
The spokesperson for United We Can, Cristina Gomezhas pointed out the inconsistency of maintaining alerts about the damage that shows can cause to sensitivity while defending the presence of minors. “This is the toll. He who pays rules“Gómez stated, referring to the agreements between PP and Vox to approve the regional budgets. Furthermore, he insisted that “anyone who appreciates an animal is not going to witness how it is killed. It’s from Perogrullo.”
The deputy of Month for Menorca, Joana Gomilahas expressed his concern about the fact that the PP has given the green light to “another of Vox’s obsessions”, in this case, bullfighting. “Now that their pact is broken, they are free not to do it. Oh, no, they still have the Budgets ahead of them and they already know how they spend it,” he said.
Vox insists on defending “the cultural heritage of Spain”
The Vox deputy, Sergio Rodriguezhas argued that the left avoids bringing the debate to the field of culture “because they have lost it.” In addition, he has highlighted the contributions of bullfighting to the world of art, fashion and literature.
For Rodríguez, the discussion about minors’ access to bullfighting boils down to the fact that bullfighting is, by law, cultural heritage of Spain. “They want to deny minors access to culture,” he stated, and criticized the demand for the appearance of the director of the OBIA, recalling that her intervention on cases of sexual abuse of warded minors was previously rejected.
