The National Holiday was celebrated again one more year. October 12 awakens for many a feeling of pride that everyone celebrates in their own way. Murcian Alicia Catalán (@kalonbayart), with almost half a million followers on TikTok, is committed to “diversity” which “is the strength of our country.”
Catalán, a Murcian artist who uses her own body as a canvas, celebrated October 12 in her own way and represented the 17 autonomous communities and the two autonomous cities with elements of their folklore. She livened up the video by putting together fragments of songs that belonged to artists from each place. “Long live Spain and each of the communities!” Alicia wrote in her Instagram post.
He did something similar on June 9, Murcia Region Day, when he published 11 typical scenes from our community. In them you could see the Good Friday Salzillo, a rice pot next to the Mar Menor, the Bando de la Huerta, Carlos Alcaraz or the Real Murcia, among others. On this occasion he chose the music of Funambulista with his song ‘Dos Mares y una Mirada’.
«With this project I want to distribute throughout Spain (and the world) a little piece of each of our communities. Sometimes we forget that Spain is one of the richest nations in the world and I’m not exactly talking about money. “We are rich in culture, landscapes, tradition, customs, gastronomy and art,” the artist published along with the video.
For the Region, Alicia chose to show the Cathedral of Murcia, the Castle of Lorca, the Lighthouse of Cabo de Palos, the Cross of Caravaca, the Flowering of Cieza, the City Hall of Cartagena, lemons and sailors with the song Carolina de M- Clan.
The bear and the Madrid strawberry tree, the Basque Concha beach, the Mallorcan ensaimadas, the Valencian paella, the Canarian mojo picón or Don Quixote and Sancho Panza are other typical scenes that can also be seen in the video.
On the other hand, the song chosen was a compilation made by the composer Querido Diablo in which he brought together artists from every part of Spain and sounded in unison with the image of his area. The musicians were the following: Mecano (Madrid), Rels-B (Balearic Islands), Despistaos (Castilla la Mancha), Fito y Fitipaldis (Basque Country), Extremoduro (Extremadura), Estopa (Catalonia), La Fuga (Cantabria), Social Security (Valencian Community), José Mercé (Ceuta and Melilla), Fondo Flamenco (Andalusia), Corridor Effect (Canary Islands), Pepe Blanco (La Rioja), Melendi (Asturias), Marea (Navarra), Amaral (Aragón), M-Clan (Murcia Region), Los Piratas (Galicia) and Celtas Cortos (Castilla y León).
“We are very lucky that each community is unique, special and different from the others and although many think otherwise, diversity does not separate us or make us weak, diversity is the strength of our country,” concluded Alicia Catalán.
In the video, which has already had more than 1.3 million views on TikTok, the Murcian woman receives the affection of many people from all over the national territory. «Beautiful work and thank you for including my Canary Islands, congratulations» she wrote @dragnoa. For his part, @celiacorderoburgos congratulated Alicia in this way: «Castilla y León, it is perfect!!! You didn’t get any more things!! Food, monuments, culture. You are veryyyyyy big!!!! Greetings from Valladolid.
