This pilot project starts this Thursday with university students
The Murcia tram launches a new mobile payment application that from this Thursday, university students with profiles of Bono Murcia Student, University Student or Bono Campus will be able to launch as a pilot test.
This project will allow users to travel only with the use of their mobile device and by means of a single click, being able to recharge with a virtual wallet with a card or PayPal, and validating their trips on QR codes displayed on trams and/or stops that will register the place , address, date and user of the trip.
It is a personalized virtual wallet that, initially, will only be used by university students. The characteristics of this first wallet are the same as those of a Campus Bonus, since the top-up is €10.50 and will allow 32 trips (€0.33/trip). Meanwhile, for the rest of the users, the operation of purchase, recharge and bonus validation will continue as usual.
Advantage
– The cashless method (without physical money) allows payment to be made without tickets or physical invoices and without contact with equipment other than the user’s own smartphone.
– Speed when using QR code reading and identification technologies from the user’s device for any action or operation.
– The use of BlockChain technology ensures the creation of environments with inviolable, secure, transparent and traceable records for users and businesses in any action or transaction.
– It allows the reduction of the carbon footprint, without printing tickets, cards or invoices and also reduces the need for the production of electronic equipment.
– It enables the wallet to be recharged from anywhere and prior validation at the stop, while waiting for the tram, which means minimizing time and inconvenience for the user.
The first with BlockChain technology
It is a very innovative system, since it will be the first public transport in Spain that uses BlockChain technology to digitize the form of payment for the service through an application.
The EPIC Project (Electronic Payment Interurban BlockChain) develops a digital payment system for products or services or general services through an application based on BlockChain technology (conversion into exchangeable tokens) that is characterized by being secure, traceable and auditable.
The University of Murcia, SYSCOMED, SMARTFI and Tranvía de Murcia participated in this project, with the collaboration of the Murcia City Council. The action is part of the Specialization and Innovation Strategy for the Smart Specialization of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (RIS3Mur Strategy) co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union.
