The metal foundation for the formation has presented in the classroom generation project with which it intends to respond to the lack of generational relief and specialized profiles to cover. This cycle will announce to young people the high employability of the sector and the good economic and labor conditions it offers. And the sector will need to cover 350,000 quality jobs in the coming years.
Metal generation puts the focus on the conditions of the profession in the metal sector and does so thinking about young people at the ages that decide what to study and work, but also giving a 180 degree turn to the perception of youth, which is usually linked to the “glass generation” label, as if it were fragile and vulnerable, when it is a strong and resistant generation as metal.
Reasons? It is a very formed generation, but with more pessimistic perspectives than their parents and with more uncertainties about their future. They fight, on the other hand, for a vital stability, give solidity to their lives and build a satisfactory professional career.
A higher salary
It is not only high employability, but there are also very good conditions. A person who works in the metal accesses an average salary of more than 2,000 euros net per month. If we talk about annual gross, it is 43% higher than the average salary in Spain among all sectors (2022 INE data).
In addition, salaries and working conditions are subject to collective bargaining. In the last year, payrolls grew 3% in the sector, slightly above the increase in prices, leading workers to gain purchasing power against their invoices, consumption and savings with security and tranquility. Since 2020, the increase in salaries has been exceeding 10% in metal.
To complete the circle of good conditions, there are other social benefits such as life insurance, disability coverage and retirement incentives.
Banish myths of the profession
One of the lines of work of the metal generation initiative is to banish myths about the profession. Since it is an eminently physical work, when in reality many jobs are linked to robotics, 3D design or process automation. Or, traditional businesses that have evolved in their activity, but with a outdated perception such as the workshop, since it is an increasingly technological profession and in which artificial intelligence is already entering.
