The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeidahas assured at the ’31 ABC-Deloitte Financial Sector Meeting’ that the financial sector should not be subject to the diversion of other political issues by the Government.
This reference by Almeida points directly to the banking tax that, at this time, the Spanish Executive is trying to make permanent. The mayor has insisted that Banking does not deserve to be subjected to continuous regulatory changes. Above all, he stressed, because the sector must have a guarantee of fiscal stability.
In this sense, Almeida wanted to thank the financial sector for the work they have been doing for years, and which is part of the backbone of growth.
Along these lines, Mayor Madrid has made it clear that He is not in favor of making the bank tax permanent“an ideological tribute that only responds to the Government’s tax collection voracity.” Furthermore, he has pointed out that if the capital of Spain is to be competitive, work must be done to offer facilities. Likewise, he has made it clear that the growth of the city could not have occurred without the trust of society.
During the presentation of the event, the president of Deloitte, Héctor Flórez, stood out for banking by ensuring that more than 70% of business financing comes from banks, and that it should be more in the coming years.
For his part, and as a warning to sailors, the partner responsible for financial services at Deloitte, Juan Pérez de Ayala, has pointed out that among the ‘top 10’ of capitalization in the world in the financial sector, there is only one European bank. A sign that you cannot put more obstacles than necessary.
