More than 190 residents of Donetsk, including eight children, have died as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) since February 2022. On Thursday, September 14, the mayor of the city Alexei Kulemzin said in an interview TASS.
“A huge number of victims among civilians – since February, 192 people have died in the city, eight of them are children. Only in Donetsk, 887 people were injured, including 42 children,” he said.
Kulemzin noted that this is the most terrible figure that he had to voice.
Earlier, on September 11, it was reported that a man died in the Kievsky district of Donetsk as a result of shelling of the city by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The day before, Izvestia obtained footage of the consequences of shelling by Ukrainian militants of the area of the railway station in Donetsk. On that day, the mayor of Donetsk, Aleksey Kulemzin, said that, according to preliminary data, one civilian was killed during the shelling of the Petrovsky district of the city.
On September 9, Izvestia war correspondent Valentin Trushnin was told by residents of Donetsk about the shelling of the city by the VFU using a 155 mm NATO caliber projectile. At the same time, it became known that two civilians were killed in Donetsk as a result of shelling of the city by Ukrainian militants.
Prior to that, on September 2, the mayor of Donetsk, Aleksey Kulemzin, reported the death of a minor, wounded during an attack by Ukrainian forces in the Kalinin region. The mayor of the city also specified that a 39-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were injured during the shelling of the Obzhora supermarket.
On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. It began against the backdrop of the situation in the region that worsened in mid-February. Then the authorities of the DPR and LPR reported on the increased shelling by the Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of the civilian population in the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the relevant decrees.
