What began as, eight months ago, a very well-connected investigation of the Tax Agency and of the Economic Crimes Prosecutor’s Office about businessman fraud Alberto González Amadorpartner of President Ayuso, of 350,000 euros to the treasury has become a case against the State Attorney General, with signs of potentially affecting La Moncloa.
The recently resigned general secretary of the Madrid socialists, Juan Lobato, went to a notary earlier this month to formalize some WhatsApp messages exchanged eight months earlier with Pilar Sánchez Aceraat that time, Óscar López’s right-hand man when he was chief of staff of the president of the Government, Pedro Sanchez. Now Sánchez Acera is Óscar López’s chief of staff, Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service.
Those messages between Lobato and Pilar Sánchez Acera were about the email that Carlos Neirathe lawyer for Ayuso’s couple, sent the Madrid Economic Crimes Prosecutor’s Officeon February 2nd of this year, recognizing on behalf of his client two tax crimes. In said emailNeira communicates González Amador’s willingness to reach an agreement of criminal compliance, with which he would avoid going to prison. “Certainly two crimes have been committed against the Public Treasury,” the lawyer concluded.
The leak of that email, with the confession of Ayuso’s boyfriend as the author of two tax crimes, is being investigated by the Supreme Courtwhich keeps the State Attorney General under investigation, Alvaro Garcia Ortizalready the chief prosecutor of Madrid, Pilar Rodríguez, for alleged revelation of secrets. The instructor of the case, the Judge Ángel Hurtadohas summoned Lobato as a witness next Friday and has ordered him to provide a copy of the notarial record on the WhatsApp messages.
What do these messages show?
Juan Lobatoalready former general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid, sent to the ABC newspaperlast Sunday, November 24, his written version of the reasons that led him to go to a notary to record the messages with Pilar Sánchez Acera.
“I wanted to record that according to the evidence that I have, it is proven, in relation to the procedure of the Attorney General’s Office, that neither I nor Pilar Sánchez Acera We received no information from the Prosecutor’s Office, but the media already had that information. In times of hoaxes it is useful to prove the reality of the facts,” he wrote. Cubas published ABC.
According to the aforementioned media, the messages show that Sánchez Acera sent Lobato March 14, 2024 the email from Ayuso’s boyfriend’s lawyer and asked him to show it publicly hours later, in the plenary session of the Madrid Assembly that was convened for that day, and to demand Ayuso’s resignation based on González Amador’s confession.
Lobato was not the first to show the ‘mail’
And so Lobato did. In his speech at that plenary session, he brandished the paper printed with Carlos Neira’s email, acknowledging two tax crimes in the name of the Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s boyfriend. A email protected by the secrecy that governs communications between the Prosecutor’s Office and the legal representation of the taxpayers under investigation, as was the case of Alberto González Amador.
But Lobato was not the first to publicly show that email. A means of communication, The Pluralhad published it in its entirety an hour before he showed it at the Madrid Assembly. And since the night before, March 13, several media outlets, led by Laserhad revealed the existence of the email with the confession of Ayuso’s boyfriend, although they had not published the document itself.
The key to this new derivative of the case about the leak of the emails that concern Ayuso’s boyfriend is whether the email that arrived to Juan Lobato from the hands of Pilar Sánchez Acera It was leaked directly from the Prosecutor’s Office.
From the media right, the atmosphere is heating up in the direction of La Moncloa and they point out, without evidence, for the moment, that from the State Attorney General’s Office the mail arrived at the headquarters of the presidency of the Government of Spain and from there it was sent to the leader of the PSOE of Madrid.
A forced resignation
The penultimate chapter of this case, before Lobato’s statement in the Supreme Court, scheduled for next Friday, arrived this Wednesday. Shortly after the end of the appearance of Pedro Sanchez in Congress, the PSOE of Madrid sent a statement to the media with a letter. In it, Lobato announced his resignation despite the resistance shown in the previous days.
The text from the former general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid does not make direct reference to the notary’s matter or the pending judicial declaration. But it does leave some messages open to interpretation. The clearest one is this: “Without a doubt my way of doing politics is not the same, nor perhaps sometimes compatible with, that of a majority of the current leadership of my party. Nothing happens. I assume it democratically. But I cannot give up being as I am and as I have always been,” he wrote Cub.
He had lost the trust of Ferraz precisely because of this case that keeps the State Attorney General under investigation for an alleged crime of revealing secrets. And also internally, as this medium has been publishing.
The pressures on the PSOE were growing and finally Lobato gave in. He is leaving, he says, “so as not to harm the party.” Precisely something they considered he was doing with his attitude. Lobato will no longer go to Seville this weekend, where the 41st Federal Congress of the PSOE. But in the Andalusian city there will be a lot of talk about him and what he may declare in the Supreme Court. Government and environmental sources Oscar Lopezmarked, on the other hand, as his possible successor, say that they have “absolute peace of mind” because there is “nothing” that can affect them.
