The 2024 season comes to an end for the J80 Spain class with successful participation in the different competitions that have been held throughout the territory with consolidated fleets in Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Galicia, the Valencian Community and the Basque Country. The last event will be the J80 Sailing Series at the end of this year where the 12 best teams will compete over a weekend to find out the winner of the J80 Finals 2024. The J80 Spain class continues to bet on promotion both in the mixed category, where Both men and women can be accommodated, being a pioneer class, achieving recognition from the RFEV and where precisely the Spanish champion boat in the absolute category in the last two years has been mixed and where the participation of this modality is gaining a strong weight in the class. A firm commitment has also been made to the youth category with the incorporation of young sailors, thus creating a pool and ensuring a good future in the absolute category. At the national level there are more than a hundred boats that have participated in the different competitions, whether they are J80 Sailing Series as well as in top-level regattas such as the Prince of Asturias Trophy in Baiona, the Queen’s Trophy and the PalmaVela. In this sense, Biobizz by José Azqueta from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra/Real Sporting Club has been proclaimed winner of the 2024 National Ranking, Solintal by Armando Gutiérrez and Ignacio Camino from the Marítimo de Santander has been second and Kouko by Dani Cuevas from the Real Club Marítimo from Marbella, third. In the mixed category, the winner was the Dorsia Sailing of Nuria Sánchez Nomdedeu from the Real Club de Regatas Alicante, for the second consecutive year, and in the Youth category, the Zona Franca of David Madrazo from the Real Club Marítimo de Santander. Circuits such as those held in Baiona, La Línea, Valencia, Getxo and Santander have demonstrated the good moment in which the J80 class is going through in Spain. At an international level, the Eurofrits & Aviko of Daniel de la Pedraja of the Real Club Marítimo de Santander, won the title of world champion in waters from La Rochelle (France), defending and revalidating what has already been achieved in 2023 in Baiona as well as in 2022, 2021, 2019. The Copa del Rey in Palma is a regatta to recover, since for many years the J80 has been a one-design that has participated in this prestigious competition and where the teams gain loyalty year after year, in all its categories including the women’s and where participation has always exceeded, at least, a dozen units. The president of the J80 Spain Class, Armando Gutiérrez , explains that “we are looking at the possibility that the Real Club Náutico de Palma listens to us and can once again bet on this great class, and that a monotype as consolidated as the J80 in our country and with the great events that are coming in the coming years of an international nature, shine in this regatta that the owners like so much. In addition to the numerous world titles achieved by the Spanish J80 crews throughout history, Spain will continue to be on the front line at an international level in the coming years, with the organization of the European Championship in 2026 at the Real Club Marítimo del Abra/Real Sporting Club and the World Championship in 2027 at the Real Club Marítimo de Santander.
