On Wednesday, March 2, Izvestia correspondent Denis Kulaga filmed the abandoned positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR). They were next to one of the children’s camps.
“Where once there was an ordinary checkpoint, now there are quite serious structures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he said.
According to the journalist, next to the entrance, which cannot be approached, there is a memo about what Russian soldiers look like.
“However, these units that were stationed here did not see anyone in the end, neither Russian soldiers nor the defenders of Lugansk. After pinpoint shelling, they just took it and fled from here,” Kulaga said.
The situation in Donbass escalated on February 17. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including heavy weapons. The republics announced a general mobilization and evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the republics. The documents were ratified the next day.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of hitting the country’s military infrastructure and introduced martial law. He also severed diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.
