Yesterday, the International Criminal Court issued a warning to “individuals who threaten to retaliate” against it or its employees, stressing that such actions may constitute “an attack on the administration of justice.”
The office of Attorney General Karim Khan, based in The Hague, said in a statement published on the “X” website that it seeks to “engage constructively with all stakeholders every time the dialogue is consistent with its powers.”
He added: “However, this independence and impartiality are undermined when individuals threaten to take retaliatory measures against the court or against court staff” in the event of making decisions regarding investigations that fall within its powers, warning that “such threats, even if not carried out, could constitute An attack on the administration of justice entrusted to the International Criminal Court.
He said that the International Criminal Court calls for an immediate end to “attempts to obstruct, intimidate, or unjustifiably influence its officials.”
Khan’s office did not want to specify who made these threats and whether they were related to Israel and the war in Gaza.
However, a legal expert suggested that the threats were likely related to “the ongoing investigation in Palestine,” given the Israeli government’s recent statements about “threats to the Palestinian Authority in response to the possibility of issuing arrest warrants.”
