The International Airport of the Region of Murcia (AIRM) registered a total of 837,000 passengers in 2022, which is 197.3% more than in 2021 but 23.1% less than in 2019, the year before the coronavirus pandemic. , according to data from the Murcia Regional Statistics Center (CREM).
Of the total number of travelers in 2022, 81,774 were nationals and the rest foreigners, including 126,683 from the European Union (EU) and 628,543 from outside it. These data contrast with those of 2019, when the number of passengers from the EU exceeded one million, while non-EU passengers were 28,151.
In addition, the AIRM recorded a total of 6,391 operations in the last year, of which 5,691 were regular and 631 non-regular, as well as 69 corresponding to other commercial services. Those more than 6,300 operations represented an increase of 109.8% compared to 2021, when 3,045 were recorded, but 13.5% less compared to 2019 (7,392 operations).
It should be remembered that the Murcia Region International Airport began its service on January 15, 2019, one day after the Murcia-San Javier aerodrome ceased operation.
