Giving space and dissemination to the players of the Liga MX Femenil is not an easy task and today, it requires several people to carry it out properly, since there is an Editorial Committee in charge of giving such dissemination to the soccer players.
In 90min, we had the opportunity to talk with Ivonne Almaraz, a journalist from the newspaper ESTO who, in turn, is part of the Editorial Committee of the Liga MX Femenil so that she could tell us about it.
What is the Editorial Committee of the Liga MX Femenil?
The Editorial Committee of the league was created in order to have journalists in the branch who could contribute ideas, exposure and promotion of the women’s league. We are journalists and reporters who have already worked in different media and who have the task of covering the women’s league.
How do you get to the Editorial Committee?
In my case, since I entered the ESTO newspaper, I was given the opportunity to cover the Liga MX Femenil and therefore something that caught my attention was the way we developed the stories and how we talked about the players in a much deeper way and not as shallow as “won, lost or tied”
What is done within the Editorial Committee?
It has the task of contributing to the league in terms of ideas and proposals. About what could or could not work In addition to giving more exposure to the players as such, which is what is intended. Also, we are responsible for putting together the ideal elevens of the Liga MX Femenil every week.
What is the process like to put together an ideal XI for the Liga MX Femenil?
They send us a questionnaire to each one and they ask you who was the best in each position. Many times we have the help of CITEC, which is the league’s tool that gives you numbers and sometimes it is even the tool itself that gives you the options in each position. That is why sometimes people on social networks get out of the wave when they see the elevens. Because sometimes, no matter how much we put a player, more weight is given to the statistics that CITEC throws.
Do you think that we have done well here in Mexico as far as the Liga MX Femenil is concerned?
I think that we do lack, the independent media are the ones that give the most publicity to the Liga MX Femenil and it is because, unfortunately, the clubs sometimes do not give as much openness to both the independent media and the larger media that have been involved for more years. There are almost no statistics or anything concrete about women’s soccer, only the little that those who have dedicated themselves to women’s soccer have been able to get. So yes, I think there should be greater openness and accessibility, because if the league is good right now, imagine if all those doors were opened.
What five aspects would you like them to be carrying out within the Liga MX Femenil?
Have more details in the minutes for those who are chronicling or could not witness the meetings. That they support all the media equally. That the CITEC tool be available to everyone because they could carry out better analyses. Have a better development of protocols, and I am not only talking about the case of gender violence as happened recently with America and Harrington, but with various things such as pregnancy. Work more with the minors on the subject of preparation and also give workshops to the players so that they all have a better development in the media and can express themselves in a better way.
What message would you give to a new fan of the Liga MX Femenil?
Enjoy our league, it’s unique, it’s magical. Whoever watches women’s soccer knows that it is another world, that they are not just people behind a ball, there is something more, there are stories, there is a fight. You have to admire it, value it and promote it. They are people who have fought for many years and who are still fighting to give it the place it deserves.
