The strong storms that fell in Spain during the past weekend and also this Monday so far leave two dead, three missing and several floods and damages of various kinds.
La Dana (isolated depression at upper levels) broke the record for the rainiest day in a month of September in many areas of Spain, including Madrid, Toledo, Valladolid, Segovia (all in the central area) and Navarra (north).
Cádiz (south), Segovia and Tarragona (northeast) are the provinces that registered the highest accumulation of rainfall throughout the day on Sunday: 172.2 liters per square meter in the Cadiz municipality of San José del Valle; 147.8 in San Rafael from Segovia and 117.2 in Tortosa-Roquetes from Tarragona.

Ávila -96 liters per square meter in the town of Cebreros- and Toledo capital -91.8- are the other two provinces most affected on the same day and, in the last case, the rain caused the death of two people: a young 20-year-old in Casarrubios del Monte, in the province of Madrid, and a man who was traveling in a vehicle in the municipality of Bargas, in Toledo.
Besides, The Civil Guard is looking for three missing people, two in the province of Madrid: an 83-year-old man in the town of Villamanta and another who was traveling by car with his family when the vehicle was dragged into the Alberche river in Aldea del Fresno (Madrid).
The mother and daughter managed to get out of the car and the 10-year-old boy was found up in a tree early Monday, but the father has yet to be found.
The third is a woman who has been missing from the night of this Sunday to Monday, when he was driving his vehicle on the CM-4004 road near the municipality of Valmojado (Toledo).

In his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), one of the forest firefighters recounted the experience and stated that he stopped several cars to stop the march due to the flooding of the river, but the missing driver “ignored it and decided to cross .
“He remains stopped in the middle of the flood” and, although “he tries to reverse gear, the car overturns and is dragged by the flood,” he said.

Torrential rains caused the suspension of rail traffic in several regions, especially between Madrid and Andalusia (south) and on the Mediterranean coast. In the city of Madrid, bad weather caused the temporary closure of several metro lines and commuter trains
The Madrid authorities asked the population to telework or stay at home as much as possible, to avoid displacements in the capital, whose entrance accesses were collapsed on Monday morning, when much of the activity resumed after the holidays in August.
The inhabitants of Madrid received an unprecedented emergency notice on their cell phones on Sunday, accompanied by a loud sound signal, which urged them not to use their vehicle and to stay at home.

Spain, a European country on the front line of global warming and where 75% of the territory is threatened by desertification, is regularly affected by torrential rains at the end of summer or autumn, which cause sudden flooding of the rivers.
The phenomenon that causes copious rains and storms, called Dana (Isolated Depression at High Levels) by meteorologists, has left tragic consequences in the past, such as in 2018, when thirteen people died on the island of Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands.
The president of the government, Pedro Sánchez, called on citizens to “continue to act with caution” during a speech at a public event in Madrid.
