This Tuesday, the French authorities carried out searches at the headquarters of the Professional Football League (LFP) and at the CVC investment fundas confirmed to the AFP agency by judicial sources. The records are part of the investigation opened by the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office for suspicions of diversion of public funds, active and passive corruption of public money and influence peddling.
The case began in November of last year after a complaint from the association ‘AC! Anticorruption for a possible diversion of public funds in the creation of the commercial company of the French LFP, after a partial transfer of capital to the Luxembourg investment fund CVC Capital Partners.
The agreement signed in April 2022 between the LFP and CVC provides a contribution of 1,500 million euros to French professional football in exchange for 13.04% of its income for life for CVC. French justice is investigating the conditions of this agreement and the role of its various protagonists.
According to the French sports newspaper ‘L’Equipe’, the home of the president of the LFP was also searched, Vincent Labrunealthough AFP could not confirm this information.
Controversial agreements
The agreement has also sparked political interest and last April it created a parliamentary commission to study italthough for the moment they have left it aside so as not to interfere in the judicial investigation.
In Spain LaLiga also signed an agreement with the investment fund CVC, despite the resistance of Real Madrid and Athletic Club de Bilbaowho even took the agreement to court, with the support of 44 clubs.
