Russia produces enough sugar to meet domestic demand. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev on Wednesday, March 23, during a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to him, sufficient food supplies have been created to meet the needs of the population, including socially significant products, one of which is sugar, the TV channel reports.Star“.
“The situation is also related to the fact that wholesalers were able to purchase large volumes of products in advance and were reluctant to sell them at retail, holding them for further resale,” the minister said.
The head of the department also noted that exhaustive measures were taken to stabilize the situation on the market. So, federal retail chains have limited the supply of sugar to one hand, according to the website kp.ru. From March 15 to August 31, a ban was introduced on its export from the country, and the product can be imported in the amount of an allowable quota of 300 thousand tons.
Patrushev noted that work is being actively carried out to import substitution of raw material supplies and the sown areas for sugar beets are expanding.
Earlier, on March 21, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that it was necessary to provide Russians with the opportunity to buy familiar goods, despite sanctions restrictions.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko said that Russia has enough sugar and buckwheat reserves to meet domestic demand.
Prior to that, on March 17, the Ministry of Industry and Trade assured that household chemicals were in stock for six months in advance. A large stock of diapers, hygiene products and household chemicals has been formed in retail chains, and Russian factories have enough stock of raw materials and necessary materials so as not to stop their activities.
At the same time, experts ruled out the possibility of a shortage of essential goods. So, Dmitry Yanin, Chairman of the Board of the International Confederation of Consumer Societies (ConfOP), noted that one should not worry about the lack of salt, matches and simple utensils on store shelves.
On March 15, the economist urged stockpiling Russians not to empty store shelves. He noted that if the quantity of goods is selected several times more than normal consumption, then the shelves will be empty, because the logistics are not designed for this. In addition, such unjustified sweeping off the shelves of some products can lead to the creation of an artificial shortage.
