Not everything goes in the effort to raise supposedly humanitarian funds for those affected by Dana. As confirmed by the National Police, the website Ayudavalencia.es carries out allegedly fraudulent activities in collecting donations through bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency in the world. As reported by Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, the Government has provisionally, but urgently, suspended said online domain.
The first notice of suspected fraud came from the Valencia Provincial Information Brigade of the National Police, after investigating a complaint about requests from this website for donations to help those affected by the floods in the Valencian Community. According to reports from the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, the State Security Forces have immediately activated the protocols to block the Internet activity of Ayudavalencia.es. This includes a formal request to telecommunications operators to collaborate in denying access to that Internet address immediately, with the aim of preventing citizens from being victims of this type of cybercrime.
“In these moments of great confusion, due to the difficult situation that is being experienced, citizens are recommended to verify the aid channels that are being launched, to collaborate in the reconstruction of the areas affected by Dana,” indicate from the aforementioned ministry.
Likewise, the Government of Spain has made available to the population a new section on the Moncloa website and new accounts on social networks (@InfoDanaGob) to offer updated official information on the measures and aid of the plan for those affected by DANA, as well as data on the number of victims, deployment of the State Security Forces and Corps or the situation of transportation and infrastructure, according to sources from the ministry led by Oscar López.
