According to a major newspaper, the 1985 film The Goonies would have obtained the green light for a sequelalmost forty years after the original.

The production team believes there are “endless possibilities” that can be explored in this sequel and the team is already excited to get started, aiming to bring the same magic of the original film to the screen at a completely new audience.
The Goonies follows a group of kids from the Goon Docks neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, who discover an old treasure map in the attic of one of their homes. This map will lead them on an exciting search for the long-lost treasure of One-Eyed Willya legendary pirate of the 17th century. Along the way, they will have to outwit a family of criminals, the Brothersalso on the trail of the treasure.
