The measure will begin to be applied in the next edition of Roland Garros.

The four Grand Slams, Australia, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open, have agreed to establish a ten-point tiebreaker when the fifth set reaches 6-6.

The board of the Big Four has decided to put an end to the disparity of criteria in each of the tournaments to “give greater consistency to the rules of the sport and improve the experience for players and fans.”

How the ‘tie breaks’ were handled in the big four

Until now, the Australian Open had a seven-point tiebreak in the fifth set at 6-6, Wimbledon, a seven-point tiebreak at 12-12, Roland Garros, unlike two games in the fifth set, and the US Open , with a tiebreaker at 6-6 in the fifth.

Under this new rule, a ‘tie break’ will be played when it reaches 6-6 in which one of the players will have to reach 10 points, with a difference of two.

The Grand Slams board plans to review this measure over the course of a full year, before implementing it as a permanent rule.
