French President Emmanuel Macron's idea of a truce for the duration of the Olympic Games in Paris should be tested for sincerity by stopping the country from supplying arms to Ukraine. This was announced by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on April 18.
“It seems to me that the test of the sincerity of such proposals and statements should be the cessation of arms supplies,” she said during a briefing.
At the same time, Zakharova called such initiatives general considerations, since at the same time the European Union (EU) and NATO adhere to the course of “inciting aggression.” They “encourage” the Kiev regime to commit further crimes.
Zakharova emphasized that Macron needs to take “practical steps” in order for Moscow to believe in the sincerity of his initiative.
Earlier, on April 15, Macron put forward a proposal to stop hostilities in the world during the Olympic Games in Paris, which will be held from July 24 to August 11. According to him, he will discuss it with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
On that day, Macron's proposal for an Olympic truce was criticized by French military officer Alain Corvez. In his opinion, the French President has completely destroyed the republic's diplomacy, and his idea of a ceasefire around the world will not succeed. Corvez expressed the opinion that no country would implement such an initiative in Ukraine, the Gaza Strip, Sudan and other parts of the planet with the help of Paris.
The next day, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that the Kremlin does not see official steps from any parties to implement Macron’s proposal to stop hostilities in the world for the duration of the Olympic Games. He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin was repeatedly asked similar questions. At the same time, both the head of state and the military drew attention to the fact that the Kiev regime usually uses such initiatives to try to rearm or regroup.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russia announced on February 24, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
