Florian Thauvin has been one of the most disappointing signings in Liga MX in recent years. The French striker arrived with the label of world champion and figure of Olympique de Marseille. Before arriving at the Tigres, the player had several offers to stay in the Old Continent, but finally he ended up opting for Mexican soccer.
Thauvin had some interesting offers in European football before choosing the UANL team. Ludovic Deléchat, a lawyer who advised the Frenchman to join Tigres, indicated that the player is happy in Monterrey and that he believes that his decision to join the felines was the right one. Likewise, he spoke about the teams that were interested in signing him and the role played by André Pierre Gignac for his arrival.
“Marseille wanted to renew, there were talks, interest from big clubs like Milan, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City. Gignac is a friend of his, they became very close and gave him this opportunity.”
– Ludovic Delechat
Florian Thauvin signed with Tigres de la UANL until mid-2026. His first tournament in Mexican soccer was disappointing and he was unable to show what was expected of him due to low level and the appearance of injuries. In his second semester in Mexican soccer, the 29-year-old striker has shown a slight improvement. In Clausura 2022, Thauvin has played 356 minutes over six games and added one assist.
With these figures, he has already surpassed his performance in the Grita México 2021 tournament.
