According to a local official cited by the agency, the man, who was single, avoided bathing for fear of “getting sick.”
But “for the first time a few months ago, the villagers took him to a bathroom to wash himself,” a local official told Iranian state media.
“Shortly after, she got sick and finally on Sunday… she gave her life,” Irna wrote.

A short documentary entitled “The strange life of Amou Haji” was made about his life in 2013, according to local media, and it was precisely because of this audiovisual production that he was given the nickname of the “dirtiest man in the world”.
Haji was covered in soot and, he said, had an aversion to soap and water. He said that he hated the very idea of taking a bath. He had said that he chose that way of life after experiencing “emotional setbacks in his youth,” and he then decided to isolate himself.
The Iranian too had an aversion to fresh food and drink.

“His favorite food was rotten porcupine and he preferred to drink five liters of water a day from a rusty oil can. He often collected water from nearby puddles,” says the Daily Mail.
The locals of Dejgah, concerned for his well-being, built an open brick house for him to live in after seeing that he was sleeping in a hole in the ground.
They also decided to convince him to take a shower a few months before he died after reports that he was lonely and that not washing made it difficult for him to make friends and find a partner.

At the beginning of this year, several medical studies were carried out. Dr. Gholamreza Molavi, a professor at the Tehran School of Public Health, conducted the tests and found that Haji’s health was optimal, despite the conditions in which he lived.
According to Molavi, no bacteria or anything similar was found on him, just trichinosis, which comes from eating raw meat and causes a common infection. However, Haji never exhibited a symptom.

Molova concluded that the man was able to stay healthy for so many years because he had developed a strong immune system after decades of living in harsh conditions.
