Several members of the executive position themselves against Casado and García Egea, and threaten to resign if there is no congress in the near future
Every Monday Pablo Casado meets with his most faithful within the framework of the Steering Committee, the party’s executive. All those who sit at the table have been chosen to exercise their function by the president of the PP himself. The crisis, however, has fractured the hard core of Casado.
General Secretariat
Teodoro Garcia Egea
To the right of the leader of the formation sits Teodoro García Egea, the controversial general secretary whose head the barons demand. Casado is reluctant to sacrifice who has been his right hand since he decided to run for the party’s presidency. And maybe it’s too late to deliver it. Ayuso accuses Egea of having planned against her the alleged setup for the purchase of masks and the commission of her brother.
The rivalry between the party’s number two and the Madrid president comes from afar on account of the date of the celebration of the future PP congress in the Community of Madrid, to which Ayuso is running as president.
Vice Secretary of Organization
Ana Beltran
The also president of the PP of Navarra has publicly shown her support for Casado and García Egea. “Full confidence in the general secretary and in his actions”, she declared the days before the Management Committee. Beltrán is considered number three in the match.
Deputy Secretary of Communication
Paul Montesino
He made the leap from journalism to politics at the hands of Pablo Casado and maintains his loyalty to the party leader. “Proud to be part of your team, president,” wrote the head of Communication on Twitter at the outbreak of the crisis. «What has happened today by Ayuso is reprehensible. He hadn’t seen it. I think that nobody understands that », he added after the Madrid president denounced the alleged espionage and the operation to bring her down.
Deputy Secretary for Sectoral Action
elvira rodriguez
The Minister of the Environment in the last Government of José María Aznar is clear about who to support. «The PP is a great party because it has the best affiliates, supporters and voters. Our obligation is to take care of them and attend to them,” says Rodríguez. That is, to the party and without ties. Her independence has led her to position herself against Casado’s entrenchment in the party’s presidency and in favor of holding a congress.
Deputy Secretary for Social Policy
Ana Pastor
The former Minister of Health, Development and former President of Congress has not made public statements. Pastor maintains a close relationship with Mariano Rajoy and is independent. Free of ties, she is considered one of the main critical voices within the Management Committee.
Vice Secretary of Participation
Jaime de Olano
“The disloyalty of those closest to us is the most painful,” Galician Jaime de Olano, deputy for Lugo, wrote on social networks. And, he added on February 17 when the case broke out: “Much courage and much encouragement to my president Pablo Casado.” The position that Núñez-Feijóo has finally adopted, which calls for Casado’s resignation, could have opted for a congress in which Casado is endorsed or replaced by a new leader.
Vice Secretary of Territorial Policy
Antonio Gonzalez Terol
“I am sure that, when all this happens, the Spanish will value Casado with prudence and good judgment.” González Terol belongs to the new generation of deputies who took over the reins of the party after Casado’s victory over Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría. His support for Casado is presumed to be one of the strongest in the executive.
Speaker in the Senate
Cuca Gamarra
Former Mayor of Pamplona, replaced Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo. Until now, he has measured his words and has limited himself to pointing out that the unity of the party is unbreakable and that the parliamentary group works with a single voice.
Speaker in the Senate
Javier Marotto
“I have worked by his side for many years now, I have also met an example of a politician committed to exemplary action,” Maroto maintains about Casado, whom he supported from the outset in the assault on the presidency of the formation. He is one of the most faithful to the leader of the PP.
Speaker in the European Parliament
Dolores Montserrat
She served as the first spokeswoman for Casado in Congress, but her ineffectiveness in debates with the ministers led to her replacement. In exchange, Casado chose her as number one on the list for the European elections. “Work as a spokesperson for the PP in Europe, led by Casado”, she limited herself to pointing out after the outbreak of the crisis.
National Spokesperson
Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida
The mayor of Madrid has remained neutral in the battle between Casado and Ayuso. He has asked to be relieved as National Spokesperson and refused to attend the Steering Committee on Monday.
President of the Guarantees Committee
Andrea Levi
He is a person of Casado’s utmost confidence, with whom he entered the national leadership during the mandate of Mariano Rajoy. The spokesperson for the Madrid City Council maintains that “Married will be the best president in Spain”, but she also maintains a close collaboration with Almeida. She was one of the few leaders who spoke after the commission and called for unity, but she is positioned among the supporters of a Congress that elects a party leader, whether remarried or not.
