Haj Ismail, the well-known leader “Abu Al-Sabaa,” was a familiar face among the people and visitors of Medina with his humanitarian initiative of distributing tea, coffee and dates to the guests of God and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque for free and as an ongoing charity.
The Syrian Hajj died naturally as a result of his advanced age, and prayers were offered for him on Tuesday evening at the Prophet’s Mosque.
Over the past four decades, the Sheikh used to sit on a plastic chair near the Prophet’s Mosque and near his home, placing a table in front of him containing plates of sweets and dates, alongside tea and coffee.
According to Syrian media, Sheikh Ismail Al-Zaim, who hails from the city of Hama, moved to reside in Saudi Arabia more than 50 years ago. During his stay in Medina, he was known for his charitable work and his distribution of tea, coffee, milk, and dates to pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims for free every day and without getting tired.
The elderly Syrian man previously confirmed to Saudi media that everything he has been distributing for 40 years is free for the sake of God, without receiving any financial compensation from anyone, and his motto is the saying of God Almighty: “We only feed you for the sake of God. We do not desire from you reward or gratitude.”
