Most of the accidents in scooters are falls to the road and collisions with other vehicles, so the most common and dangerous injuries occur in the head. Specifically, in Spain there have been 1,300 electric scooter accidents with injuries in the last three years, including 16 deaths.
This is the main reason for the new mandatory use of the helmet on a scooter. And not doing so may imply a fine according to the new Traffic Law, although this sanction is pending a regulatory development of the Law. Some municipalities have already established sanctions for riding a scooter without a helmet, although in this case it is about traffic regulations to local level.
But not everything is the same. While traditional helmets offer passive protection that shields the wearer in the event of an impact, smart helmets like those of
LIVALL they anticipate the accident to save lives. They achieve this thanks to a sophisticated SOS system that works in a very intuitive way. The
helmet motion sensor detects if the user has fallen and is immobile. At that moment, the helmet automatically sends a distress signal to the emergency contacts established by the user, in addition to the exact GPS location of the accident for their help.
Faced with this new obligation, a great dilemma arises for sharing companies. If the helmet is now mandatory for any scooter user, what about the rental VMPs? Should they have a built-in helmet that can be used by anyone who wants to ride it? And the most complicated: how to properly integrate a helmet into the structure of a scooter with dozens of daily uses without risk of theft or damage?
LIVALL has found a solution for the market: the Smart Case. Is about
an anti-theft ‘case’ for the helmet that is perfectly integrated into the front of the scooter. The Smart Case prototype has an anchoring system to the mast with a rear hook to hang clothes and objects such as backpacks or bags. In addition, it is waterproof and works with remote opening through a mobile application. From now on, when a user wants to get around on a scooter, they can open the Smart Case through the app when renting the vehicle. All you have to do is remove the helmet, put it on while you’re on your way, and when you reach your destination, store it back in the LIVALL-designed anti-theft case, so that the next user of the scooter can use it too.
