The missile cruiser Varyag and the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs repulsed an air attack in the Sea of Japan. Practicing actions against a mock enemy was carried out during air defense exercises, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Monday, October 11.
The purpose of this testing was the Malachite target rocket launched by the Razliv small rocket ship. Also, the personnel of the GRKR “Varyag” and the BOD “Admiral Tributs” conducted a series of combat exercises using the SAM “Osa” and “Dagger” against the means of air attack.
“For them, Saman target missiles launched by Metel and Hoarfrost small anti-submarine ships were used as aerial targets,” the ministry said in a statement.
Rocket fires took place in the Sea of Japan in accordance with the fleet’s combat training plan. The crew of the Varyag was required to detect an air target and destroy it at a distance of 12 km with two missiles of the Fort air defense system. The targets were hit, the air defense systems worked normally.
In April, the missile cruiser Varyag, the modernized frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, and the Sovershenny and Loud corvettes took part in a control check during the winter training period. During the exercise, tactical groups of ships of the Pacific Fleet destroyed sea and coastal targets in the Sea of Japan.
