The Court of Accounts will control the CNIO in the Maria Blasco stage, but only since Sánchez governs

The Court of Auditors will make a special control report of the accounts and the hiring of the Foundation National Center for Oncological Investigations Carlos III (CNIO) from 2018 until 2024, coinciding with the arrival of the Government of Pedro Sánchez and not with the mandate of its former scientific director Maria Blasco, in the position since 2011.

The Mixed Relations Commission with the Court of Accounts in Congress has approved the request of the PP for 20 votes in favor and 14 against. In the same session the commission has rejected the request of the PSOE, which requested the control of the CNIO accounts since 2011, the date of the arrival of Blasco.

On January 28, the Board of Trustees of the CNIO, the highest decision -making body of the center, dismissed Maria Blasco at the head of the scientific direction of the Center and Juan Arrroyo as managing director. The decision was taken before the severity of the complaints about their management known since last December and for “the need to initiate a new stage in the CNIO”, given the existence of “an incompatible work climate with which it must occur in a center of reference and excellence.”

In his appearance before the Science Commission of the Congress of Deputies on February 5, the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana MorantHe said that “management team could not continue”, although he stressed that “no regulatory breach by the center or the ceased people has been detected.”
