The Community is advancing in the construction of the north and south collectors of San Javier, whose works are expected to be completed before the end of the year. The actions have an investment of six million euros and are carried out on a 4.2 kilometer route.
The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Sara Rubira, accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, José Miguel Luengo, visited the Marmenorense town this Friday to check the status of the works that “will contribute to avoiding floods by creating separate sanitation networks and stormwater, which will allow rainwater to be diverted to the San Javier Treatment Plant to regenerate it and reuse it for irrigation.
The head of Agriculture confirmed “that these works reaffirm the commitment of the regional Government to the preservation and recovery of the Mar Menor, by preventing the first waters of heavy rains from reaching the Mar Menor, since they have a higher concentration of pollutants due to the trawls.” ».
The actions consist of laying 1.8 km of 1.8 meter diameter pipes in the main collector and 2.4 km of one meter diameter pipes in the rest. These collectors converge on Cabo Roches Street, in front of the beginning of Cabo Huertas Street. From there the first runoff waters are transferred to a storage reservoir that has a total capacity of 33,250 m3, which will be located in front of the Wastewater Treatment Plant plot.
In both the northern and southern collectors, the necessary manholes, the stormwater collection network using gutters with cast iron grates, replacement of all affected services and paving and signage will be built. The construction project of the north and south storm drains and the lamination reservoir in the municipality of San Javier are financed by the European Union through the FEDER Fund in 80 percent and by the Autonomous Community in the remaining 20%.
