With the coaches we take stock of the project born from the collaboration between Art4sport and Nike continues in Milan. The technicians of the various disciplines tell it
The Bebe Vio Academy goes on week after week. “The project was born from the collaboration between Nike and art4sport Onlus” which together created the first Italian academy in favor of inclusive sport with the aim of involving children with physical disabilities and able-bodied children in the practice of sport, because as stated by Bebe ” sport is for everyone “.
Sitting Volleyball
–
“Initially I perceived a bit of hesitation on the part of the boys who for the first time had the opportunity to approach sitting volleyball, which after a few weeks I began to see a certain enthusiasm and it seems to me that things have changed in a way positive- says Fernando Morganelli – Academy coach sitting volleyball – “There are differences in the reactions of the boys according to the age, but everyone gets involved in the same way. Although football and basketball remain among the favorite sports, they are all willing to be taught a new sport. And how does integration happen? “The children without disabilities have lent themselves, but this right from the start, to lend a hand to the children with disabilities. I see them very willing to help, to be together and they do it with a smile on their faces, which is absolutely not to be taken for granted “.
Fencing
–
Ginevra Roato, BVA fencing coach. “The approach of the children is much more sociable and much more integrated, because they understand what sports are practiced and how to manage themselves within the space. They know where to go and how to get involved. In a word, they have a much more positive approach ”. And considering the different ages, what is their dynamic? “The little ones are the ones who are most enthusiastic: They want to do, they want to try without even listening to some rules and techniques. For them, sport is essentially a game and that’s how they understand it. Even in the older ones I see a positive approach: they listen more to the rules, they assimilate them earlier and carry out the activity not as a game but with a sporting vision “. “The most popular sports – adds Ginevra – are basketball and football. The most difficult for them I think is the fencing which is a little more static than the others, like sitting. Fencing is a little more distinctive and a little more complicated. The idea of hitting a limited target, not having an extended field leads them to have greater difficulties ”. “The integration takes place in a very quiet way and they already know how to manage themselves. Everyone is aware of their condition and I see that children without disabilities are very proactive: they ask us for an assault with the disabled. They blend well with each other and there is no need for an adult to give them directions “.
Athletics
–
Vanessa Palombini, the athletics coach. “The kids have fun and interact well. Maybe some of them have more difficulties in some sports. Or some personal fear: someone is afraid of foil (thinking about fencing), or you don’t want to put the mask on your face. And in that case then you have to find a singular approach, looking for an individual way to bring kids closer to the discipline, but they are always very involved and ready to learn. And we find a really exciting collaboration. Then I add that having overcome the first obstacle, right at the start of the activity, now they arrive at the gym and immediately ask us what do we do today? But in the beginning they had to observe first and then decide what to do “. “The most loved sport par excellence is certainly football. Obviously, but basketball is also very popular: because the wheelchair, like the ball, is a playful object. So the wheelchair helps them to go fast, something new (thinking of boys and girls without disabilities). They are more inclined to team play. And I think that’s what they have the most fun at. Individual sports, on the other hand, put them to the test a little more, so I feel like fencing and athletics. Because in these disciplines there are moments in which you have to expose yourself in the first person, even if there are moments in which there is a collective part of the training. However, the good thing is that they never back down. Also because we try to involve them all together in the activity, obviously paying attention to those children who have special needs. But already after a few weeks I must say that the children have made friends all together, so they help each other a lot. And it is beautiful because where one does not arrive there is the other. This project seemed impossible while it is exciting ”.
Football
–
“The approach of the guys was great. At the beginning they found themselves a bit confused because doing many sports is not like doing just one. It wasn’t easy at first, but then enthusiasm broke out – says football coach Renzo Vergani -. They don’t know how lucky they are because once upon a time it was only played by age group. The most popular sport? It seems to me that there are no major differences. The guys enthusiastically do a little bit for everything. Fencing because Bebe is there, football because it is football. And then basketball, sittig volleyball, athletics: young people really like them if they are dealt with well. The most difficult sport? It seems to me that we have not found any difficulties: they do everything without problems. Fencing is perhaps the most complicated sport. Regarding integration, I believe that we adults have more problems. In the sense that children and adolescents have no problem dealing with diversity. In fact, I think they have a lot of fun experiencing this interaction. I am sure that the problems are more ours than we see them from the outside ”. “The approach of the boys was positive. The football field does its part: this is why there is great interest – says Simone Pajaro, another brain-damaged football coach -. Children with disabilities are more enthusiastic because obviously it is a discipline they love, while normal children without disabilities are perhaps a little “forced” to do so, in the sense that they do not have the same transport. The smaller they are, the more difficult they have to know themselves better. Football I would say is the easiest one to pass on also because the rules are quite simple to follow and in the end it is what everyone knows and which unites everyone. In my opinion, integration takes place spontaneously, with the coach who manages to better manage the situation and ensure that the boys do not feel excluded in any way. We try to involve all young athletes based on their abilities by adapting their disability to a specific sport. Understanding what he does best: like what he gets excited every time he hits the ball with his head. Then from there you take him to do even the most complicated things. It is decisive to take part of their initial enthusiasm ”.
basketball
–
“After a first moment of distrust towards a new sport, I would say that everything developed in the most natural way possible. The curiosity of sitting on a basketball wheelchair pushes the kids to “throw themselves” into the new experience. From the smallest to the largest I would say that the interest is the same as the interest between children with and without disabilities is the same. The difference is seen instead between males and females… .. girls are much more enterprising. Sports they love the most … there are some guys who at the beginning of the bva were obsessed only with football while now they are very happy to do all the disciplines that the academy makes available and I would say that this is thanks to the organization that keeps high the level of attention and curiosity of the boys – says Marco Tomba, basketball coach -. I believe there is no easier or more difficult sport, everything revolves around the disability that we are dealing with but it is up to us coaches to find the way, as far as possible, to make a sport do in the best way. Interaction / integration…. They are boys and disability counts 0, as in all boys the interest in what they do must be kept alive and the best way to do it is competition. In the moment of the game we see the true nature of the boy…. And I would say that in bva everyone participates in the great “
