The mayor, Noelia Arroyo, announced yesterday the imminent tender for the Llano del Beal rainwater interceptor, to prevent water containing mining waste from passing through the center of town and through the school when it rains. You can do so once you have received authorization from the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) to develop a highly anticipated work. The government team hopes to award the works early next year, for 413,000 euros. This infrastructure will prevent runoff from circulating through the urban center and the school, and will allow it to go directly to its natural channel.
«With this infrastructure we will respond to a need for the town of El Llano. The objective is to prevent the water from going through the whole town, and flooding the school and the houses, ”Arroyo stressed. He welcomed the approval of the CHS to start the bidding process. In this way, a work highly demanded by the residents of the town will become a reality.
The project was prepared by municipal technicians and sent to CHS. This organism dependent on the State requested a study of rainwater, with the carry-over of heavy metals and other residues from the Sierra Minera. The City Council entrusted the work to the professor of the Polytechnic University (UPCT) Ángel Faz. He collected samples in several torrential episodes and analyzed them. The conclusions were sent in the summer to the basin organization.
The project includes a request from residents to free more streets from the stream than initially planned.
Arroyo hopes to obtain “shortly” a response from the CHS to the restoration plan for the San Agustín reservoir. Said project contemplates covering the ground with clean lands, maintaining the recreation area and vegetation; correct runoff and prevent water from accumulating next to the school. It will be built with a wall that separates the raft from the road, to retain possible dragging of the slope. A new wooded area will become a recreation area for the town.
